Some of the world's greatest triumphs have been celebrated with spectacular ticker-tape parades up Broadway. From astronauts to sports champions to five-star generals, Downtown has honored outstanding human achievement with these one-of-a-kind tributes in our skyscraper canyons. As a result, Broadway is famous around the globe as the Canyon of Heroes.

The Downtown Alliance commemorates all 200 ticker-tape parades throughout history by literally marking the Canyon of Heroes. As we repave the sidewalks along the entire length of Broadway from the Battery to City Hall, we are installing black granite strips at regular intervals noting the name and date of every parade, from the 1886 dedication of the Statue of Liberty to the festivities honoring the New York Giants as 2008 Super Bowl champions.
