The Downtown Alliance works to keep Lower Manhattan looking its best. You'll see our staff hard at work tending seasonal flowers and plantings, installing holiday lighting and street furniture, and sprucing up parks and plazas. Their efforts make Downtown a beautiful place to live, work and visit.

Landscaping

The Downtown Alliance designs and maintains seasonal plantings at six different Downtown locations: Wall Street Park, Bowling Green, Coenties Slip Park, Trinity/Edgar Place, and hanging baskets on Nassau Street. This greenery includes red tulips in the early spring, annuals from late spring through fall and evergreens during the winter holiday season. It also includes plants in thatched baskets hooked to bishop's-crook light poles along the Nassau Street pedestrian mall.

Coenties Slip Park

Funded by the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation and designed by the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation, this new open space was created in 2006.  The landmarked bluestone sidewalk extends into a plaza space featuring benches, a granite plaza and a fountain feature.  Planting beds and trees have also been added.

Through a concession agreement with the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation, the Downtown Alliance maintains this Park and has an agreement with Zigolini's to operate an outdoor cafe.

Wall Street (Mannahatta Park)

Funded by the Lower Manhattan Redevelopment Corporation and designed by the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation in 2006, a new park was born with views to Trinity Church on the north side of the existing roadbed. At the east end of the site, the terminus of this allee is an artist-designed fountain, made possible by a donation from Deutsche Bank. The allee is formed by unique granite and glass benches. This contemporary park provides a lunch time respite for Wall Street workers and a gaterhing space for all to enjoy. Through a concession agreement with the Parks Department, the Downtown Alliance has had several seasonal concession operators including St. Maggie's Cafe and Picnick Smoked.

Beautification of Trinity/Edgar Plaza

Working in conjunction with the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, the Downtown Alliance has supported temporary art installations at Trinity Plaza, the small public place located near the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel entrance.

Tables and Chairs

Expanding on the success of tables and chairs in front of the NYSE on Broad Street starting in 2005, the Downtown Alliance has recently added other areas for tables and chairs through an agreement with the NYC Department of Transportation. We hope to continue expanding the tables and chairs program in feasible areas to encourage outdoor dining and relaxation.

Installation of Winter Holiday Decorations

Our custom-designed "shooting star" holiday decorations are on display from mid-November through New Year's Day.  They illuminate Downtown's main thoroughfares and bring holiday cheer to the neighborhood.
