The Downtown Alliance works to keep Lower Manhattan looking its best. You'll see our staff hard at work tending seasonal flowers and plantings, installing holiday lighting and street furniture, and sprucing up parks and plazas. Their efforts make Downtown a beautiful place to live, work and visit.
Landscaping
The Downtown Alliance designs and maintains seasonal plantings at seven different Downtown locations: Hanover Square, Bowling Green, Coenties Slip, Trinity Place, Legion Memorial Square and Nassau Street Mall. This greenery includes above-ground planters bearing tulips in the early spring, annuals from late spring through fall and evergreens during the winter holiday season. It also includes plants in thatched baskets hooked to bishop's-crook light poles along the Nassau Street pedestrian mall.
Transformation of Coenties Slip
Teaming with the City's Department of Transportation and Department of City Planning, the Downtown Alliance has turned a portion of this small roadway into a sitting area for pedestrians. The "parklet" now includes Art-Deco benches, flower- and tree-filled planters, and classy new trash receptacles. Its periphery is outlined by large stone blocks that were once pylons from the original Williamsburg Bridge.
Beautification of Trinity Plaza
Working in conjunction with the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, the Downtown Alliance has supported temporary art installations at Trinity Plaza, the small public place located near the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel entrance.
Installation of Winter Holiday Decorations
Our custom-designed "shooting star" holiday decorations are on display from mid-November through New Year's Day. They illuminate Downtown's main thoroughfares and bring holiday cheer to the neighborhood.
