Pedestrian Counts - COMING SOON!

Lower Manhattan is experiencing sweeping changes. As the neighborhood continues its transformation into a 24/7 destination for office workers, residents and tourists, the Downtown Alliance partnered with Motionloft to document reliable and regular information about pedestrian movements in and through the district.

The Downtown Alliance's automated pedestrian counting system - phased in during spring 2017 - provides 24/7/365 data on the number of pedestrians who pass through specific counting zones in Lower Manhattan. A total of six locations have been targeted across the neighborhood. The data allows us to currently estimate that:

  • Nearly 306,000 people pass by the New York Stock Exchange every week - roughly equivalent to the population of Pittsburgh.
  • Roughly 1,500 people per hour and 36,500 people per day enter onto Wall Street from Broadway.
  • "Up an at 'em": the busiest hour at Wall and Water Streets is from 8am - 9am
