Best Pedestrian Route – GRO Architects

Best Pedestrian Route, winner of a 2008 AIA Design Award, was an innovative sidewalk shed designed for a one-year installation along the north side of John Street at Broadway. Constructed out of plywood and aluminum, this unprecedented design co-opted traditional construction materials and transformed them into a public art piece that challenged the conventional experience of navigating a construction site.

Concrete Jungle – Tattfoo Tan

Concrete Jungle is a whimsical application of zebra prints on the Jersey Barriers along Broadway, from Ann Street to John Street. The barriers protect the pedestrian walkway adjacent to the Fulton Street Transit Center construction site from the vehicular traffic on Broadway. The print was created using standard traffic paint and stencils.

Fulton Fence – Carolina Cisneros, Mateo Pinto, Carlos J. Gomez de Llarena

Fulton Fence involves a tactical intervention on the wire fencing along Fulton Street between the City of New York's water main project, and the pedestrian sidewalk on Fulton Street, east of Broadway. The artists used standard construction materials, including mesh and metal signs applied to the fencing, to create a visual composition interwoven with the streetscape. The project will continue to be intermingled with the urban fabric, as the pieces will constantly be shuffled to accommodate the site’s progress.

Untitled, 2007 – Dzine

Created by Chicago-based Puerto Rican painter and multi-media artist Dzine, this site-specific mural project spans more than 400 feet in length and is affixed to the parapet wall of the construction fence at 200 West Street. Dzine’s commissioned work for the fence is comprised of abstract animated biomorphic images which take on various fluid forms, with vivid colors, patterns and textures that unleash a visual energy and cause his paintings to vibrate with rhythm.
