Sixth Annual Revival of Evacuation Day NYC

The National Park Service, the Veteran Corps of Artillery-State of New York and The Lower Manhattan Historical Association announce the sixth annual revival of “Evacuation Day”, the celebration of General George Washington’s November 25, 1783 liberation of New York City from British Occupation. This year’s Evacuation Day will be celebrated on Friday November 29 starting with a presentation at Federal Hall, 26 Wall Street at 11:am followed by a march to Evacuation Day Plaza (Bowling Green), the removal of the British Union Jack and the raising of the American Stars and Stripes - the final act of the Revolutionary War confirming the victory over the British and the fulfillment of the political and military goals set forth in the Declaration of Independence as well as the conditions of the Treaty of Paris whereby the Crown officially recognized the sovereignty of the United States.
