Judith Tydor Baumel-Schwartz, Director of the Arnold and Leona Finkler Institute of Holocaust Research at Bar-Ilan University, will share the extraordinary story of a religious artifact that survived the horrors of Auschwitz and a Nazi death march. This artifact, a shofar (a ram’s horn that is made into a special wind instrument used during Jewish High Holiday religious services), is on view in the Auschwitz. Not long ago. Not far away. exhibition. Along with the history of this shofar, Professor Baumel-Schwartz will discuss other forms of spiritual resistance during the Holocaust that she has encountered in her career. 36 Battery Place.
