Denmark was the only occupied country to actively resist the Nazi deportation of its Jewish citizens. On the 77th anniversary of the historic Danish Rescue that saved 7,200 Jews, we will convene the filmmakers of the 1991 film A Day in October – a dramatic and compelling resistance narrative that brings one Jewish family’s story to life. The rescue operation will be examined in comparative perspective with insights from screenwriter Damian Slattery, director Kenneth Madsen, and an actor from the film, moderated by Wagner Holocaust Center Director Lori Weintrob. A DVD of the film is available for purchase here and the trailer for viewing here. While A Day in October is not yet available for online streaming, this program intends to generate awareness to make it available to the public.
