New Opportunity For Lower Manhattan Eateries To Expand Outdoor Options

The Alliance for Downtown New York, the nonprofit business improvement district for Lower Manhattan, will participate in the Department of Transportation's Open Streets: Restaurants program, in partnership with several area restaurants.

Starting Friday July 17, Pine Street from Pearl Street to William Street and Pearl Street from Broad Street to Hanover Square will be closed to traffic to accommodate in-street outdoor dining. The closure will run from 5p to 11p on Friday and from noon to 11p on Saturday and Sunday. The program will continue through the end of October.

Participants on Pine and Pearl Streets will include Crown Shy, the Lovelace, 787 Coffee and more. In the coming days more restaurants on these streets may take advantage of the program. “Dining al fresco is always a pleasure. Now, it’s more important than ever to help our restaurant community survive,” said Jessica Lappin, President of the Alliance for Downtown New York. “Please come and break bread with us. Come Downtown to enjoy a lovely, safe evening of delicious dining under open skies.”

The Downtown Alliance will be placing and removing barricades to close the street to traffic each day. Our restaurant partners will be responsible for setting up and breaking down seating and serving areas as well as maintaining cleanliness and appropriate social distancing.
