Downtown Alliance Presents Awards to Four Leaders for Exceptional Service in Lower Manhattan
The Alliance for Downtown New York today presented four Exceptional Service Awards to individuals who have helped make life better for residents, workers and visitors in Lower Manhattan. The awards were presented at a breakfast event hosted at the Down Town Association.
Each year, the Downtown Alliance recognizes unique individuals from both the public and private sector who have provided exceptional service to advance the goals of the Downtown Alliance and Lower Manhattan. This year’s honorees were:
State Senator Daniel Squadron – Now serving his fourth term representing New York State’s 26th Senate District, State Senator Squadron has been a strong advocate for practical solutions that bring people together and improve government for everyone. He played a pivotal role in securing nearly $15 million in state and city resiliency funds for Lower Manhattan.
NYPD Captain Brendan Timoney – As Executive Officer in the 9th Precinct, Captain Brendan Timoney was a valuable ally in the Alliance’s efforts to make Lower Manhattan safer and more welcoming. He assisted the Alliance’s public safety team with vendor enforcement, homeless outreach and made sure the Alliance was involved in addressing issues throughout the district.
Warrie Price, Founder and President of the Battery Conservancy – Warrie’s leadership has been transformative not only for the Battery, but for Lower Manhattan as a whole. Thanks to her tireless efforts, the Battery’s makeover is nearly complete. Its perennial gardens, organic urban farming and robust storm water management have set a new standard for public landscape design and is a pivotal aspect of Lower Manhattan’s bustling revitalization.
Chief Steven Costas, Director of the Bureau of Cleaning and Collection for the Department of Sanitation – Director Costas has become a critical partner, particularly with the expansion of the Alliance’s recycling program. Last year, the Alliance expanded its program from 16 units to a total of 174; this expansion would not have been possible without the support of Director Costas.
